Coast to Coast accomodation – Glaisdale to Robin Hoods Bay

The Coast to Coast trail is a rich and varied long distance walk crossing from the Irish sea to the North Sea. Starting in St Bees Cumbria on the West Coast you will hike the fells of the lake district, peaks of the Yorkshire Dales and moors of the North York Moors National Parks before ending in Robin Hoods Bay on the East Coast.

The route is credited to Alfred Wainwright and first described in his book “A Coast to Coast Walk” published in 1973. In 2022 the walk was designated a national trail and improvement works and publicity has followed with intensity.

What makes the coast to coast so special?

  • The route crosses three national parks: the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales, and the North York Moors,
  • You’ll experience glorious landscapes from rugged mountains and rolling hills to quiet valleys and picturesque villages. The hike takes in waterfalls, rivers, and lakes
  • As a national trail extra funding has been provided to tackle accessibility issues and we can expect numerous short and long term projects aiming to improve paths, signage, and publicity

How to reach Laneside from the Coast to Coast trail

Laneside Holidays are particularly well located to host walkers as they enter the final stage of their coast-to-coast walk. As you enter Glaisdale taking in the views as you follow Glaisdale Rigg instead of going through the gate leading you to Glaisdale Highstreet simply sweep down to the left and follow the path out past Swang Cottage. You will find our accommodation on the right after a small bridge a mere 5-minute walk down the main road through the village. Our what3words is spilled.fortress.spurring

Suggested itinerary

We heartily recommend extending your stay to two or three days and here’s our suggested itinerary:

Day 1. Arrive at Laneside after your day’s walk. Relax and get a restful night’s sleep in preparation for the completion of your historic walk.

Day 2. Complete your final stage of the coast-to-coast walk arriving at Robin Hoods Bay. Public transport is easily accessible from Robin Hoods Bay to Whitby then back to Glaisdale. The ‘hail a ride’ system means you can get dropped right at the top of our lane.

Day 3. Take the bus or train to explore beautiful Whitby town. Climb the 199 steps to the Abbey. Visit Whitby Museum at Pannet Park. Enjoy browsing the old town with its quaint shops and cobbled streets. Stop for a drink and people watch in one of the pretty pubs, cafes and restaurants. Enjoy your last night in North Yorkshire before beginning the journey home.
